# War Room

## Short Definition

The team facility where front office executives, coaches, and scouts manage draft selections, execute trades, and make real-time decisions on draft day.

## Definition

The war room is the operational command center for an NFL team during the draft. General managers, head coaches, personnel directors, position coaches, and scouts all occupy the same space, working from a shared draft board and communicating in real time as picks are made and trades emerge.

During the draft, the war room manages several simultaneous streams: monitoring the board as players are selected and availability shifts, fielding and initiating trade calls from other teams, running internal debates on which player to select if a pick arrives unexpectedly early or late, and coordinating with medical and legal staff on any late-breaking information.

How a war room functions under pressure—particularly when a coveted player falls or a trade offer arrives with 90 seconds on the clock—reveals a great deal about an organization's decision-making culture.

## Example

"The phone rings in the war room with two minutes left on the clock—another team offering a second-round pick to move up. The GM has to decide right now whether to take it or stay put."

## Common Confusion

The war room is not just where the GM sits. It is an operational room combining coaches with positional needs, scouts with player intelligence, cap analysts with financial constraints, and legal staff—all contributing to real-time decisions.
