# Waiver Wire

## Short Definition

The pool of unrostered fantasy players available to claim via waiver priority or FAAB bidding—where in-season roster management wins and loses championships.

## Definition

The waiver wire is the pool of players not currently on any team's fantasy roster—free agents available for any manager to claim. During the season, players cycle onto the wire when dropped, when undrafted, or when NFL moves change their fantasy viability. Working the waiver wire is how managers recover from injuries, exploit breakouts, and maintain roster depth.

Most leagues process waiver claims once per week—typically Wednesday overnight—with all claims resolved simultaneously by priority order or FAAB bid amount. This differs from free agent pickups available first-come-first-served after the waiver window clears.

The waiver wire is where championships are won after the draft. In injury-heavy seasons, the best available wire player in a given week may outscore first-round roster picks. Managers who monitor NFL news daily and translate it into faster, smarter waiver decisions than their leaguemates gain a systematic edge.

Streaming—cycling through wire players weekly rather than hoarding handcuff roster spots—is a major fantasy strategy built entirely on wire efficiency. Identifying the right player to add and the right player to drop to make room is the core skill the waiver wire tests.

## Example

"Their starter just went on IR—his handcuff is the top waiver add this week. If you don't have him rostered, you're submitting that claim tonight."

## Common Confusion

The waiver wire is not first-come-first-served. Most leagues use priority or FAAB bidding to resolve contested claims—submitting first does not guarantee you get the player. Claims process on a set schedule, not instantly.
