## Definition

A top-30 visit is a formal pre-draft visit where a prospect travels to an NFL team's facility to meet with coaches, coordinators, and front office personnel before the draft. Each team is permitted a maximum of 30 such visits per draft cycle. The visits allow teams to conduct deeper interviews, run physical evaluations, and build relationship with the prospects they are most seriously considering.

The 30-visit limit creates a signal in the draft information environment. A team that uses one of its 30 slots on a specific prospect is communicating genuine interest—the cap ensures teams can't visit every player on their board and must prioritize. When visit news leaks (which it frequently does), it generates significant mock draft movement as analysts factor the reported interest into their projections.

Visit content varies by team and position. Quarterback visits often involve extensive whiteboard sessions where the prospect is asked to install plays, identify coverages, and demonstrate football intelligence. Skill position visits may include route running evaluations or film sessions breaking down the prospect's college tape with the receiving coaches.

## Common Confusion

A top-30 visit and a Combine interview are different interactions. Combine interviews happen in Indianapolis in a limited time window with many teams. A top-30 visit brings the prospect to the team's facility for a full day with coaches and front office staff—more immersive, more revealing, and reserved for players the team is seriously considering selecting.
