Fantasy scoring based on yards and touchdowns only—no reception points. The traditional format where efficiency and big plays matter more than catch volume.

## Definition

Standard scoring is the traditional fantasy football format where players earn points only for yardage and touchdowns—passing yards, rushing yards, receiving yards, and touchdowns—with no bonus for receptions. A receiver who catches 2 passes for 80 yards scores the same as one who catches 8 passes for 80 yards. The catch total is invisible in the scoring.

Typical standard scoring awards 1 point per 10 rushing or receiving yards, 1 point per 25 passing yards, 6 points per rushing or receiving touchdown, and 4 points per passing touchdown. These thresholds vary by platform but the core principle is the same: efficiency and big plays matter more than volume of involvement.

Standard scoring elevates workhorse running backs who accumulate rushing yards and score touchdowns, and rewards deep threats who catch fewer passes for larger chunks. It depresses the value of check-down backs and slot receivers who accumulate many short receptions. Classic fantasy evaluation—prioritizing players with high yards-per-touch and touchdown probability—developed in the standard scoring era.

Most casual and older fantasy leagues still use standard scoring. Competitive and high-stakes leagues have largely shifted toward PPR or half-PPR, which better reflect a wider range of real-world player contributions. When evaluating rankings or advice from any source, identifying which scoring format applies is the first required step.

"Standard scoring—forget the target count, forget the receptions. Eight catches for 80 yards scores the same as two catches for 80 yards. Touchdowns and big yardage games are what win weeks here."

## Common Confusion

Standard scoring does not mean leagues use identical settings—it refers specifically to scoring without reception points, but touchdown values, yardage thresholds, and bonus structures vary by platform and commissioner preference. Two "standard" leagues may score the same player differently if one awards 6 points per passing touchdown and the other awards 4.
