## Definition

The Senior Bowl is the premier all-star game for senior draft prospects, held annually in Mobile, Alabama in late January. It is unique among pre-draft events because NFL coaching staffs—the actual coaches of NFL teams—run the practices for one week before the game. Scouts don't just watch; they watch NFL coaches coach these players and see how quickly each prospect learns, adjusts, and competes.

The Senior Bowl week generates significant board movement because it creates competitive information the film doesn't always provide. A receiver who played against weak competition in college goes against a cornerback who will be a first-round pick. A pass rusher who dominated poor offensive tackles goes against someone who played in the SEC. The matchups reveal genuine NFL-caliber competitive ability.

Invitations are extended to roughly 100 top prospects—players who accept are committing to compete publicly against elite competition. Declining a Senior Bowl invitation is sometimes read as a sign that a prospect or his camp isn't confident in how he'd perform in that environment.

## Common Confusion

The Senior Bowl tests football in a competitive setting: how do players perform in team practices against NFL-caliber opponents, coached by actual NFL staffs? Both inform evaluation but they reveal different qualities.
