# Rookie Minicamp

First post-draft camp for rookies, tryout players, and UDFAs—held within two weeks of the draft and the coaching staff's first live look at the new class.

## Definition

Rookie minicamp is the first mandatory post-draft gathering for a team's newly drafted players, undrafted free agents, and tryout invitees. Held within two weeks of the draft, it runs two to three days and serves as the initial official evaluation period where coaches install base concepts and see the new class on the field.

In addition to drafted players and signed UDFAs, rookie minicamp includes tryout players—undrafted prospects invited on a non-guaranteed basis, competing for a practice squad spot or late roster add. Teams can carry up to 90 players on their offseason roster at this stage.

For newly drafted players, rookie minicamp is the first exposure to NFL installation speed, playbook complexity, and coaching staff expectations. Impressions made here shape early depth chart positioning heading into OTAs and the full offseason program.

## Common Confusion

Rookie minicamp is separate from OTAs and mandatory minicamp, which include veterans. It is specifically for newly drafted players, undrafted free agents, and tryout players—the coaching staff's first official on-field evaluation of the draft class with no veterans present.
