# QB Flag Protection

## Short Definition

The technique a flag football quarterback uses to protect their flags from the rusher while scrambling without committing flag guarding.

## Definition

QB flag protection allows the QB to keep their eyes downfield while protecting flags from a pursuer. The core technique involves keeping the non-throwing arm slightly lowered, rotating the hips away from a closing rusher, and using direction changes.

Critically, flag protection must stop short of flag guarding. The QB cannot deliberately place their arm between the rusher and the flag. Technique is about evasion, not obstruction.

## Example

"The rusher was closing fast—she turned her hips away, stepped left, and bought herself another second to find the receiver breaking on the post."

## Common Confusion

Confused with flag guarding—QBs who instinctively protect flags by placing a hand near them are committing a penalty. Repositioning the body is legal; repositioning the hand toward the flag is not.
