## Definition

A pro day is a school-hosted workout where NFL scouts, coaches, and front office personnel evaluate a program's draft-eligible prospects. Players run the same drills as the Combine—forty-yard dash, vertical jump, position drills—in front of team representatives who may have skipped or underperformed at the Combine.

Pro days serve two primary functions. For prospects who didn't attend the Combine or underperformed, a pro day is their chance to show a corrected result or demonstrate athleticism to teams who weren't watching. For top prospects, a pro day showcases their individual skill set to the teams most likely to select them.

Team attendance at pro days signals interest. A team that sends its head coach and general manager is communicating that the prospect is a serious target. A team that sends a regional scout is gathering information. Who shows up generates draft week reporting that shapes public perception of where a player might go.

## Example

"He declined to run at the Combine. His pro day was attended by six teams including two who sent their head coach. He ran a 4.31 on his own turf. The boards moved. That's what a pro day is for."

## Common Confusion

Pro day and the Combine measure the same things in different contexts. The Combine is standardized—all prospects in the same facility. A pro day is at a player's own school with his own coaches. Scouts apply a slight discount to pro day numbers, but a dominant performance still moves boards.
