## Definition

Measurables is the collective term for a prospect's recorded physical dimensions and athletic test results from the NFL Scouting Combine and pro days—height, weight, arm length, hand size, 40-yard dash time, 10-yard split, vertical jump, broad jump, three-cone drill, and short shuttle.

Teams use measurables as a baseline filter with positional thresholds: a quarterback under 9-inch hands, a left tackle under 34-inch arms, or a cornerback under 5'10" all face additional scrutiny because of documented correlations between those measurements and positional success at the next level.

In broadcast coverage, "his measurables check out" means the physical profile matches or exceeds what teams target at his position. "Doesn't have the measurables" signals projection risk regardless of tape quality. Measurables are the starting point of evaluation, not the conclusion—scouts consistently emphasize that tape and football character ultimately matter more.

"The measurables are off the charts—6'4\", 256 pounds, 34.5-inch arms, sub-4.5 forty. Every box checked. Now let's see if the tape matches what the stopwatch says."

## Common Confusion

Measurables and athletic ability are related but not the same. Measurables are the recorded numbers—height, weight, arm length, 40 time. Athletic ability describes how those translate to football movement. A player can test elite and play below that level through poor technique or instincts.
