# Half-PPR

## Short Definition

Fantasy scoring awarding 0.5 points per reception—a compromise between standard and full PPR that rewards catch volume without letting it override efficiency.

## Definition

Half-PPR awards 0.5 points per reception rather than the full 1.0 point of PPR scoring. It sits between standard scoring and full PPR, rewarding reception volume while limiting how dramatically a high catch count can dominate a stat line. A player with 10 catches earns 5 bonus points in half-PPR versus 10 in full PPR—meaningful but not decisive.

Half-PPR became popular as a compromise format that preserves the principle of rewarding pass catchers without allowing volume to completely override efficiency. In full PPR, a running back with 10 catches for 50 yards can outscore a receiver with 4 catches for 120 yards even though the receiver was objectively more explosive. Half-PPR narrows that gap.

Player valuations in half-PPR fall between the two extremes. High-volume slot receivers and check-down backs are more valuable than in standard but less dominant than in full PPR. Deep threats who catch few passes for large gains are less devalued than in full PPR. Tight ends—who tend to run short routes and catch frequently—are elevated relative to standard but not to the same degree as in full PPR.

When consuming fantasy content, checking whether analysis is based on standard, half-PPR, or full PPR is essential. Rankings can shift significantly for the same player depending on which format applies, particularly for running backs with heavy receiving roles and tight ends.

## Example

"Half-PPR—his 8 catches are worth 4 extra points, not 8. Still matters, but you're not just counting catches anymore. The yards have to be there too."

## Common Confusion

Half-PPR doesn't split the difference evenly between standard and full PPR in player rankings—it changes the relative value of players nonlinearly. A player with 10 catches is worth 5 half-PPR points from receptions; one with 2 catches is worth 1. The 8-catch gap matters more in full PPR but still meaningfully separates players in half-PPR, just less dramatically than a full point per catch.
