A faller is a prospect whose draft stock has declined during the evaluation process—dropping on boards due to poor all-star game or Combine performance, a medical flag, a character concern that emerged during the interview process, or more teams confirming reservations they already had about the film.

Fallers generate significant draft conversation because the reasons for falling matter. A faller due to a medical concern faces a different recovery path than one who simply ran a disappointing forty. A prospect whose film questions were confirmed in Senior Bowl practices has a more permanent board drop than one who had a bad testing day.

Some prospects fall strategically—their camps steer them away from events where they might underwhelm, hoping to preserve stock. A prospect who declines the Combine and runs only at his pro day is trying to control the information environment to prevent a fall.

## Example

"He was the consensus top offensive tackle in January. Combine medicals flagged a hip issue. Teams that were moving up for him backed off. He fell from top-10 to the mid-twenties. Same player, same film—different risk profile after the medical."

## Common Confusion

A faller and a bust are different outcomes. A faller drops during the pre-draft process before anyone knows how his NFL career goes. A bust is a player drafted highly who failed to produce in the NFL. A faller might go in round three instead of round one and have a long productive career.
