A prospect's perceived value and expected draft position—moves up or down based on testing, performance, interviews, and medical evaluations.

## Definition

Draft stock is the collective market perception of a prospect's value and likely draft position at a given moment in the evaluation process. It is dynamic—rising and falling based on all-star game performance, Combine testing, pro day results, interviews, medical evaluations, and emerging competition from other prospects.

Strong Combine testing can lift stock even for players whose film was already well-regarded—confirming athletic traits gives teams confidence to move a player up their boards. A poor Combine can hurt a player whose game had questions, though film-first scouts discount testing anomalies. A medical flag can crater stock regardless of performance.

The draft stock conversation intensifies in the weeks before the draft as teams complete their boards. A prospect who was projected in the second round in January might be a top-20 pick by late April if his evaluation tour validated everything his film suggested.

## Example

"He ran a 4.38 at the Combine—his stock jumped overnight. Teams that had him as a mid-second-round grade are now putting him in the late first. The testing didn't change his film; it changed how many teams are willing to move up to get him."

## Common Confusion

Draft stock and draft grade are related but not the same. A grade is a static assessment of talent. Stock is dynamic—it reflects current league-wide perception and moves based on new information from testing, interviews, and medical evaluations.
