# Day 1 / Day 2 / Day 3

## Short Definition

The broadcast framing of the NFL Draft: Day 1 is Round 1, Day 2 is Rounds 2–3, Day 3 is Rounds 4–7—shorthand for where a prospect is expected to be selected.

## Definition

The NFL Draft spans three days, and broadcast coverage uses Day 1, Day 2, and Day 3 as shorthand for the rounds occurring each day. Day 1 is Round 1—prime time, the green room, players walking the stage. Day 2 is Rounds 2 and 3—held Friday evening. Day 3 is Rounds 4 through 7—held Saturday.

In evaluation, these labels carry value implications. A "Day 1 player" has a first-round grade and projects to start immediately. A "Day 2 player" typically starts within one to two years. A "Day 3 player" is often developmental, depth, or a specialist.

The labels are used to assess pick value: selecting a Day 1 player on Day 2 is a steal; selecting a Day 3 player on Day 1 is a reach. Most sleeper and value picks involve Day 2 and Day 3 talent selected below their consensus grades.

## Example

"He's a Day 2 player—second or third round on every board. If he's still there at the top of Day 3, whoever takes him got tremendous value. Day 2 talent at a Day 3 price."

## Common Confusion

Day 2 and Day 3 do not indicate inferior talent—they indicate a different value context. Many Pro Bowl players were drafted on Day 2 or Day 3. The label indicates projected draft position relative to the class, not whether the player will succeed.
