# Center Route

## Short Definition

A play design that immediately sends the center on a pass route after the snap, exploiting the fact that the center is an eligible receiver in flag football.

## Definition

In tackle football, the center is exclusively a blocker. In flag football, the center snaps the ball and runs a route. This creates an exploitable mismatch: defenses frequently assign their weakest coverage player to the center—if they assign one at all.

Centers most commonly run short, high-percentage routes (drag, slant, quick out) that take advantage of proximity to the QB and the defense's tendency to undervalue them.

## Example

"Snap-and-go—the center released immediately on a drag. The linebacker was looking at outside receivers and didn't pick up the center until 6 yards downfield."

## Common Confusion

Teams use their worst athlete at center because 'they just have to snap'—wasting an eligible receiver. Centers who pause after snapping lose their timing advantage.
