# Los Angeles Rams

## Short Definition

NFC West NFL franchise founded in 1936—championships in Los Angeles and St. Louis bracket a nomadic history that returned to LA with a Super Bowl title in 2022.

## Definition

The Los Angeles Rams are an NFL franchise in the NFC West division, playing home games at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California alongside the Los Angeles Chargers. Founded in 1936 in Cleveland before moving to Los Angeles in 1946, the franchise has played in three cities across its history—Cleveland, Los Angeles, and St. Louis—winning championships in both the pre-Super Bowl era and the modern game.

The Greatest Show on Turf—the St. Louis Rams offense of 1999 to 2001 under Dick Vermeil and then Mike Martz—was one of the most explosive offensive units in NFL history. Kurt Warner, Marshall Faulk, Isaac Bruce, and Torry Holt produced a passing and receiving game that redefined what NFL offenses could look like, winning Super Bowl XXXIV and reaching Super Bowl XXXVI before the dynasty dissolved.

The franchise's return to Los Angeles in 2016 and subsequent move into SoFi Stadium in 2020—shared with the Chargers—created one of the NFL's most modern and premium facility experiences. Sean McVay's arrival as head coach, and the aggressive acquisitions that built a championship roster around Matthew Stafford, produced Super Bowl LVI in February 2022, giving the franchise a championship in their new home.

The Rams' roster-building approach under McVay—trading future draft capital for established stars—produced a championship but also created long-term constraints that shaped the franchise's subsequent competitive window.

## Example

"Kurt Warner, Marshall Faulk, the Greatest Show on Turf—the 1999 Rams scored points at a rate nobody had seen. They changed what NFL offenses looked like and won a Super Bowl doing it."

## Common Confusion

The Rams have played in three cities—Cleveland, Los Angeles, and St. Louis—before returning to Los Angeles in 2016. Their championship history crosses all three locations: the 1945 title in Cleveland, multiple Los Angeles era championships, the 1999 St. Louis championship, and the 2022 Super Bowl win back in Los Angeles. The franchise's nomadic history is unique in professional football.
